Failure is Feedback
What we call failure is basically feedback, it's like the observation or result of an experiment.
For instance, you "fail" to score full marks on your maths homework.
That statement can be interpreted as: There is an issue with your workings or understanding of the assignment.
What then do you do with this information?
You pick it, study it and then improve your workings or understanding.
You don't seat down and beat yourself up, no
You analyze, you ask yourself, what feedback is being given? How can I improve based on the feedback I've received?
That is how to live, start seeing what you call "failures" as feedback cause it is data.
If the new system that I developed crashed after 15 users tried to access the same feature at once, does that mean that I have failed?
Or does it say that I need to increase my capacity?
I'll paint two scenarios real quick, one developer receives a message from the boss saying that the API he built isn't functioning, another Developer(in a totally different organization) receives the same message from his boss.
Dev 1 begins to fret, starts to talk down on himself, infact, that day, he packs up his gadgets, burns them and then resigns from his job.
Dev 2 on the other hand tries to work out the situation, he checks the API, starts the process all over again, redesign it and even make it better this time.
Two developers, same problem, different approaches.
One dev decided to see feedback, the other decided to see failure.
What Dev 1 did isn't sounding logical, is it? but It is what we do everyday!!!
Cause you messed up one flyer as a designer does not mean you should stop designing
Or a customer rejected your goods does not mean you should stop selling.
The fact that something happened means that there is space for improvement, it is a crazy opportunity infact, you get to improve, that in turn puts you on a higher level.
It helps you grow!
You cannot go beyond the nursery bed if you do not expand your roots!
It is not nice yeah, you will feel uncomfortable as a plant, the space is too small, some of your roots are already beginning to shoot upwards, that is a sign that you need a bigger bed.
It is not failure, it is data, and what you do with that data matters.
Will you iterate and improve or remain small forever?
Will you allow it become a stumbling block, or a stepping stone?
